Sumobot Competition
Objective
This workshop/competition is a collaboration between Makerspace at UTSA and Advanced Robotics and open to any UTSA student. The objective of the workshop is to teach students about robotics through six workshops (spaced out through six weeks so it doesn't interfere with your classes). Students will learn how to use and code an Arduino, Fusion 360 for CADing, and learn how to use a 3D printer. The materials for the workshops will be provided by the Makerspace and Advanced Robotics using the workshop fees. By the end of the workshop on the seventh-week students will compete against each other with the robots they made in the workshops for a cash prize.
The competition will be a bracket tournament style, you can win the competition by disabling your opponent's robot or by knocking it or pushing them out of the ring.
Workshop Fee : $20 for UTSA Students / $15 for Advanced Robotics Members

What Will You Learn?
Arduino
Students will learn how to code:
-
The drive control
-
Bluetooth communication
-
Components such as servos, motor shields, wheels, etc
FUSION 360
Students will learn how to use Fusion 360 for CADing any add-ons/advantages that they would like for their robots.
3D Printing
Students will learn how to print their CAD designs and how to use the settings on a slicer software and 3D printer for optimum printing.
Workshop and Competition Timeline
Week 1
September 21, 2021
2:00 - 4:00 PM
Fusion 360 and 3D Printing
Workshop leads will teach students how to use Fusion 360 to make the add-ons/advantages they will incorporate into their robot. You will learn the advantages to different robot designs and add-ons.

Week 2
September 28, 2021
Arduino Basics
Students will learn how to use an Arduino andthe basics of coding involved. They will learn how to use an IDE, functions, and libraries. This is in preparation for coding the drive and components
Week 3
October 5, 2021
Component Control
Students will learn how to use the Arduino to control their components such as H-bridges, servos, steppers, etc. This is also with their add-ons/advantages in mind. During this time we will also hold a Q&A session at the end for specific help.
Week 4
Specific Date TBA October 11 to October 15
Communication
Workshop leads will teach students how to communicate between their control and their arduino using bluetooth.
Week 5 & 6
Specific Date TBA October 18 to October 29
Work on Robots!
We know we gave you a lot to learn in the past four weeks and you want to make the best robot you can. We will be hosting two optional sessions for you to come in and ask for help from our experienced members.
Week 7
Specific Date TBA November 1 to November 5
Competition Time!
After all your hard work you will get to put your skills to the test and show off what you've learned!
First Place Winner: $50
Second Place Winner $30
