Cave Exploration Rover

Objective

This project is a collaboration between Lunar Caves Analog Test Sites (LCATS) and Advanced Robotics to make a rover that is able to assist students in exploring caves and gathering data in areas where visibility may be low or not possible for a human to safely get to. The objective of this project is to develop a remote-controlled rover that is able to map the interior of a cave using Light Detection and Ranging (LIDAR) for the students to further use the data collected.

What Each Section Will Learn

Computer Science

The Computer Science section of the project will develop the robot's mapping system using LIDAR, as well as a UI to interpret its data.
Tools: LIDAR and Python

Electrical Engineering

The Electrical Engineering section of the project will develop the power system and camera control for the robot.
Tools: networking protocols and battery systems.

Mechanical Engineering

The Mechanical Engineering section of the project will develop an all-terrain robot capable of traversing a cave.

Tools: Material Design and SolidWorks
